Special Sessions

Specialist Sessions

Background

There are a lot of ringing progression pathways being publicised.  The Association of Ringing Teachers (ART) has a pathway.  The Ringing World (RW) has another.  Mark ringing progress is a good idea.

Concerns are: first: “Where are those opportunities to progress?”  Second: If you are not careful, it all gets just too much!

At the Walsoken Teaching Hub we are trialling a ‘joined up approach’ to progress.  This is a Walsoken ART Hub tower initiative but will be open to our entire district’s ringers.

  1. Sunday afternoons: We’ll run bell handling for new learners and improvers.
  2. The 2nd Sunday in the month: We will run sessions of mixed doubles ringing.
  3. The 3rd Sunday in the month: We plan to run ringing sessions called “Plain Hunt to Bob Doubles”.
  4. The 4th Sunday in the month: We plan for mixed minor ringing sessions.

Walsoken practices are informal, fun yet progressive.  We now have a simulator, video and sound recording.

These sessions are “By invitation only” in as much as you have to be able to ring at the appropriate level to attend.  Attendance requirements are given in the following sections.

The Walsoken Hub is able to offer a 'joined up' approach to ringing progression, as shown in the following diagram.

Bell Handling Sessions for Learners & Improvers

On Sunday afternoons, usually between 3pm and 6pm (by appointment), the Walsoken Hub can teach you to ring from scratch!  These are usually in 1 hour session with two or three students maximum.  We ask for a voluntary donation to the tower fund of £25 to learn to ring (irrespective of how long it takes) - or, if you prefer, £2 per session.

Attendance Requirements:  You don't need to be clever, strong, musical or a church-goer to learn to ring.  You must be aged 11 or older, as well as being over 5 feet tall,  to learn to ring at Walsoken.
